Examinations

We support both the University of Buckingham and the University of Warwick Medical Schools in their assessments for medical students.

This involves written assessments where examiners are required to write questions, quality assure and mark exams.

For clinical exams, examiners are provided to both medical schools for assessing. We also deliver the OSLER clinical examinations for Warwick Medical School in the trust. Training is available for these roles.

See below for the latest dates of upcoming examinations.

If you are interested in supporting the medical student assessments, please register your interest via our contact form.

Certificates can be provided for appraisal purposes.

Becoming an OSLER Examiner

OSLER examinations are designed to enable the student to respond to a patient as they would in the clinical setting; taking a history, examining and forming a management plan. Due to the complex nature of this, it is vital these exams are supported by our experienced clinicians.

Please check the requirements for becoming an OSLER Examiner and if you have any further queries, contact us.

Recruiting Patients for OSLERS

Medical students from Warwick Medical School take their final clinical exams during the fourth year of training. Part of these assessments are carried out at Warwick Hospital in the outpatient department, and involve the student doing a comprehensive assessment of a patient then establishing a management plan. We rely on our patient volunteers to run these OSLER examinations.

We accept patient volunteers from all backgrounds with chronic health conditions and clinical signs. Patient volunteers will be reimbursed car park fees and for those with access requirements, we are able to provide transport. Refreshments are also provided to volunteers throughout the day.

Appropriate and willing patients should be provided with the information contained within our recruitment poster and asked to get in touch with the exams team. Alternatively, any clinician can consent a prospective patient volunteer to the sharing of information and forward the patient’s name, hospital ID number and address to patient.volunteers@swft.nhs.uk.

The exams team will then contact the patient to discuss their availability and answer any questions around the exam process.
